Peek-a-Boo! This simple game is a favorite among newborns and can help with their cognitive development.
Peek-a-Boo is a classic game that involves hiding your face behind your hands or a cloth and then revealing your face while saying “peek-a-boo!” Babies love this game because they are just starting to understand object permanence and are surprised and delighted when you reappear. It’s a great way to bond with your little one and make them giggle.
Here are the instructions for playing peek-a-boo with a baby:
- Sit or stand in front of your baby and get their attention by making eye contact and talking to them in a soothing voice.
- Cover your face with your hands or a blanket and say “Where’s Mama/Dada?” or “Peek-a-boo!”
- Remove your hands or blanket quickly and say “There’s Mama/Dada!”
- Repeat the process, making sure to pause briefly before revealing your face to build anticipation and excitement.
- As your baby grows more familiar with the game, you can try different variations, such as covering your baby’s face and saying “Where’s baby?” or “Peek-a-boo, baby!”
You can play this game while changing diapers, during tummy time, in the car or any time you want to entertain your little one.
